How your blog or website can recover from a drop of traffic for the Google core updates

Have you noticed traffic on your website or blog has gone down?  Is your traffic down compared to last summer, maybe even by as much as 90%?  Have you found your Google ranking has gone way down?

If so, you certainly wouldn’t be alone.  Starting back in September, Google did Google Core Updates that have hurt a lot of websites.  The Google Core Updates were supposed to penalize spammy websites, but unfortunately lots of legitimate businesses have been hurt.  And months later, things don’t look much better.

You may feel frustrated and wonder if there’s any way you can increase your traffic.  You may even be thinking of throwing in the towel.

And trust me, I understand.  I’ve had a few of my websites hurt by the Google Core Updates and I have been incredibly frustrated, too.

But don’t give up!  Thankfully, there are ways you can still be successful with your website or blog.  You do not have to rely on Google.  There are other ways to get traffic to your website.  We will go over five important ones.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is a great way to get people to keep coming back to your website.  It would be nice if people just visited your website or blog every day without being reminded, but it’s great if you can help nudge them back.  Plus, email marketing is a great way to let your followers know about a new sale, a new blog entry, etc.

You may already be doing email marketing, and if so, now is the time to increase that.  But if you aren’t already, now is the time to start.  Especially because Constant Contact has a great free trial offer available right now.


Over half of people polled use YouTube as a search engine in the same way as Google.  So even if you aren’t ranking high on Google, people could find you on searches through your Tube channel.

So if you don’t have a YouTube channel, now is the time to get one.  And if you have a YouTube channel, now is the time to up your game.  Start making more videos.  You should really put your brand out there.

A lot of people also use Facebook as a search engine.

TikTok is a great way to reach a specific audience, mainly Gen Z who use it like Google.  So if you don’t use TikTok, now is a great time to get started.  And if you already use it, it’s time to step up your game.  Check out these TikTok planners to help you get focused on really growing your TikTok accounts.


Instagram is another excellent way to reach the Gen Z population.  So once again, if you haven’t used Instagram yet, now is the time to start.  And if you already have one, now is the time to step up your Insta game.
