Starting A Business Legally

If you are starting a business, then that means you need to adhere to whatever your local business laws are.  That could mean registering your business with the state or your county.  You’ll need to look up the laws for wherever you live.

You’ll also want to protect yourself.  The last thing you would want is to say lose your house because of a lawsuit.

That is why I always start an LLC if I start a new business.  There are a lot of advantages to starting an LLC – and disadvantages.  You can read about the advantages and disadvantages of starting an LLC here.

Creating a Website

If you are starting a wedding photography business, then you need a website.  It is the best way for people to find out about your business.  It is a must-have in today’s world.

You could hire someone to create a website for you.  Or you could create a website yourself.  It is not as challenging as you might think, even if you have no experience doing so.  I like using WordPress to create websites, and we made a beginner’s guide to creating a website with WordPress here.  You can make it even easier to create your website with WordPress by using a WordPress template specifically for weddings.

But you don’t have to use WordPress to start a website.  There are other ways to start a website – and other wedding templates that make it quicker for you to start a website.

One thing you’ll need to consider with your website is good SEO practices.  SEO stands for search engine optimization, and what that means is figuring out how to get your website to top of the search engines listings.  We go over the best SEO practices for wedding photographers here.

Figure Out Pricing

One thing you may (or may not) want to put on your website is your pricing.  A lot of people will want to know about it.  But you could keep it off the website in order to get more people to contact you.

Regardless, you will need to determine your pricing.  There are some wedding pricing templates here you could consider using too to display your pricing, whether you want to put it on your website or attach it in an email after someone asks.

Starting Social Media Accounts

In addition to your website, you’ll want to start social media accounts.  Those are a great way to get your business noticed.  They can even be a great way to reach a new audience.

Social media accounts that are great to start include:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • YouTube
  • Pinterest

Anything visual is a great way to show off your work.  That is why Instagram especially is so great for wedding photographers.
