Are you thinking about starting a podcast?  Well, we can help you with that!  We’ve come up with a podcast checklist that all first-time podcasters should check out before starting their first podcast.

1. Get a Podcast Host

First and foremost, you can’t have a podcast without a podcast host.  That is where you store & distribute your podcast’s audio files.  In order to get your podcast on popular podcast platforms like Spotify, Apple, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, etc., you need a podcast host.

We recommend using Castos.  Castos hosts lots of podcasts, including popular podcasts you may already listen to like Wellness Mama, The Unmistakable Creative, and Keto Woman.  They give you lots of great features and are surprisingly affordable.

2. Get a Podcast Website

In addition to a podcast host, you need a podcast website.  This website is a great tool to help you advertise your podcast.  People can find your website through search engines like Google.  You can also use your website to let fans sign up for newsletters so you can contact them when you have a new episode, you start a new podcast, etc.  You can also sell promotional items on your podcast website.

Now, if you use Castos for your podcast host, then they can help you start a webpage.  We also give you advice on starting a podcast website here.

3. Get Recording & Editing Software

Obviously, to have a podcast, you will need it to be recorded.  You also need to have the ability to edit it because most likely, there will come a time you will want to edit your podcast.  SOUND FORGE Audio Studio is a great choice for premier audio recording and editing.

4. Get A Microphone

It is really important that you have a good microphone for your podcast.  The audio quality of your podcast is important for your podcast to gain a following.  If your audio quality is poor, then some people might not keep listening to your great content and turn you off right away.  Which obviously you do not want.  You can find a good microphone for your podcast here.

Depending on your podcast, you might want a wireless microphone.  Let’s say, for example, you have a travel podcast and you report on what you see while you walk around.  You’ll need a wireless microphone for that.  We came up with a list of the best wireless microphones here.

5. Get a Pop Filter

Another way to ensure your audio quality is high to get a good pop filter.  Pop filters block the air blasts that cause popping sounds.  You can find a good, affordable pop filter here.

6. Get Headphones

The best way to ensure that your audio sounds great before your podcast goes live is to listen to your podcast using headphones.  Headphones can pick up things you won’t be able to hear without great headphones.  Check out our list of the best headphones for podcasts here.
