Are you thinking about starting a tech podcast? Then you have definitely come to the right place!
Because we’d like to help you figure out what you’ll need to do to get started. We’ll map out a step-by-step guide for creating your very own tech podcast.
Step #1: Deciding Your Podcast’s Niche
So you obviously want a tech podcast. But more specifically, what do you want your podcast to be about?
For example, you could do a podcast giving updates on the latest news in the tech industry. Maybe you’d like to do that, but have a more specific focus. For example, maybe you just want to talk about the latest in Apple technology or AI technology. Or maybe you just want to talk about news relating to the darker side of technology, like cybercrime.
Or maybe you want to go in a different direction. Perhaps you’d love a podcast that gives tips to its listeners on how they can improve their life with technology.
Really, the possibilities here are endless. And while your podcast will probably organically grow or become more niche over time as you start figuring out what works best, it’s good before you start to begin thinking and outlining what you want to cover and accomplish with your podcast.
Step #2: Deciding Your Podcast’s Format
Along the same lines, now is the time to start figuring out the format of your podcast. For example, let’s say you want to do tech news. Do you want to talk about it yourself? Do you want a co-host? Or would you like special guests from the tech industry for each episode? These are things you can start figuring out.
Step #3: Name Your Podcast
So now that you have a rough idea of what your podcast will cover and how it is formatted, you are in a better position to name your podcast.
Ideally, your name should let anyone scrolling through Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Spotify, etc., clearly understand what the podcast is and what it is about. For example, “Darknet Diaries” lets potential listeners know that the podcast deals with the dark side of the internet. “Tech Life” is a good title for a podcast about how technology impacts our life. And so on.
Ultimately, though, it is your decision what you want to name podcast. Be as creative or as literal as you want to be!
Step #4: Protect Yourself Legally
Now that you know what your name is, you can register as a business (though you always have the option of registering as a business under a generic name and applying for a “DBA”, or doing business as, for the name of your podcast).
But I am getting ahead of myself. You may be wondering why you even have to register as a business.
And the truth is, you do not have to register as a business. But you do if you want to make money from your podcast.
And making money from your podcast is of course very attractive. We talk about ways you can make money from your podcast here.
In this case, you’ll need to protect yourself legally. You’ll need to form a business. And you may want to form an LLC as well. An LLC is a wonderful way to protect yourself legally; I have formed an LLC with every business I have created. We go over the advantages and disadvantages of an LLC here.
Step #5: Get The Right Podcasting Tools
