The Olympics are going on, and it reminds all of us how fun and exciting gymnastics is.

But a lot of us are interested in gymnastics more than just every four years.  We love all aspects of gymnastics, and we love talking about it.

And that is why gymnastics podcasts are so much fun.  It’s a great listen for gymnastics fans.

And since it is an Olympic year, now is the time to start one.  Interest is up, and it’s time to go get your audience.

But if you don’t have experience creating podcasts, you may think the idea of starting one so quickly daunting.  You may think it would be impossible for you to do.

Luckily, that is not the case.  We’re going to tell you today the steps you’ll need to take to start your podcast.

Step #1: The Brainstorming Phase

Before you really get started, you need to figure out what your podcast is about.  Do you want to give gymnastics tips to fellow gymnasts?  Do you want to talk about gossip in the gymnastics community?  Or perhaps you’d like to talk about results from competitions?  Maybe you’d like to preview upcoming gymnastics competitions and give your predictions?

Or maybe you’d like to discuss gymnastics results in the past.  Maybe you are a former elite level gymnast and you’d like to talk about your experience.  Maybe you would want to give fitness tips from a former or current gymnast.  Or you want to give tips to gymnastics coaches.  Or maybe you want to focus on college gymnastics or even a specific college gymnastics team.  Maybe you don’t even want to limit yourself and you just want to make yours about gymnastics in general.  That way, you could really do any combination or all of the above.

All of these are great ideas.  It’s really what you want to talk about.  And another thing you’ll want to decide is, do you want to do your podcast by yourself?  Or do you want a co-host?  Also, another decision you’ll want to think about is, do you want to have guests on your podcast?

This is the stage where you really flesh out what you want your unique perspective to be, and quite frankly it is a really exciting stage.  And you’ll want an idea of what you’re going to do for the next step.

Step #2: Name Your Podcast

Now that you know what your podcast is about, you might be better equipped to name your podcast.  Because you might want to consider making the name of your podcast something that has to do with the content in your podcast.  For example, the podcast “Men’s Gymnastics Australia Podcast” is about (yes, you guessed it) Australian men’s gymnastics.

But you don’t have to name your podcast that way.  You can include your name in your podcast.  This is especially great if say you were an elite level gymnast in the past or you are well known online on say your own personal blog or TikTok.

Or you could just have a clever name or one that has to do with gymnastics in general, like the “GymnasticsVille Podcast”.

Remember, this is your podcast so be as creative or on the nose as you want!

Step #3: Protect Yourself Legally

Now that you know your name, you can consider registering the name as a business.  You’lll need to adhere to whatever your local laws are for a business.

Now, do you have to do this?  Well, that depends if you want to earn money from your podcast.  If you’re just doing this for fun, then you can skip to the next step.

But you can earn significant money from a podcast.  So much as it could go from your hobby to your job.  We talk about how to earn money from your podcast here.

But once you start earning money, you’ll need to protect yourself legally.  One way to do that is with an LLC.  I have gotten one for all my businesses and I’ve been really happy with it.  We talk about why you should (or in some cases shouldn’t) get an LLC here.

Step #4: Get The Right Tools

Now, you are almost ready to start recording your podcast.  But first things first: you will need to have the right tools.  This includes not only a microphone but a pop filter as well.  You can see the full list of what you’ll need to start a podcast here.

Step #5: Start Recording

Once you’ve gone through the above steps, it’s time to start recording your podcast!

One thing to remember, though, is that you will want to take advantage of the Olympics bump of interest in gymnastics.  So get started ASAP!
