If you are thinking of starting a website, you could be considering using Canva to create your website.  Canva is an easy-to-use graphic design platform.  I love using Canva to create graphics such as Pinterest pins, Facebook graphics, and YouTube thumbnails.  I have also used Canva to edit videos.

But Canva is also an option to create websites.  But it is a good option?  Today, I want to go over some advantages and disadvantages of creating a website using Canva.

Advantages

  • You can do it for free: You can create a website using Canva for free.  Obviously, that is a huge positive because…who doesn’t like free?  Of course, like with most free versions there are limitations – which we will get to later
  • No coding experience needed: You don’t need to know how to code to create a website with Canva.  If you don’t have experience with coding, this is obviously a huge advantage to you.
  • Canva is easy to use: Canva has easy-to-use drag-and-drop features that make it easier to create a website rather than say doing it from scratch.
  • You may be familiar with Canva: If you already use Canva to create images or videos, then you are already familiar with Canva.  So the learning curve will be less for you.

Disadvantages

  • Free version has Canva branding: If you create your website with Canva for free, it will have Canva branding on it.  That may not bother you, especially if you are just creating a website for fun.  But it could look less professional.  Of course, you could use a paid version of Canva.  But now this is getting more expensive, and it takes away from the main positive of Canva which is that you can do it for free.
  • Not very flexible when creating complex websites: Let’s say the website you want to create is complex.  For example, let’s say you want to create a membership website where paying members can get access to some parts of the website that non-members can’t.  This would be very hard to create with Canva.  You might need something like WordPress to do this.
  • Limited e-commerce functionality: Let’s say you want to sell something on your website.  That would be very hard to do with Canva.  It would be much easier to achieve this with Shopify.
